September 2010

We are back home now after a great holiday in France and Spain and in the U.K. in the Cotswolds.

The last ten days we spent at Ross-on-Wye, Tekesbury and Evesham. The first day it rained all day but after that it was hot and sunny every day until the last day!

June 2010

Have had a busy time lately. After our holiday in Gran Canaria we had a lot of work to catch up on in the garden. We had to dig out a lot of old scrubs and replace them with new ones. I managed to dig until my back started to ache and then I stopped for a rest. I kept doing this until the work was done and my sciatica did not get too bad.

In May we went to Yorkshire camping in our VW. We stayed first at Knaresborough and cycled into town a couple of times. There was some sun but the weather was cold. Then we moved onto Whitby and had a great camping spot overlooing the sea. We cycled into Whitby but on one day I overbalanced getting off may bike and fell against the stone corner of a shopfront. I banged my side and cracked a rib. The next day it was too painful to stay in the van so we came home. The hospital said there was no treatment just rest and painkillers.

Well the rib is getting better now and I have been to the Physio for tretment for by back. Now we are getting ready for six weks in France and Spain in our VW Camper.

March 1

Just got back from two weeks in Gran Canaria. The weather there was mostly hot and sunny with just a few windy days and a little rain. We met up with a lot of friends that we knew from last year. One big surprise was to meet Fernado Blanco whom we have known for twelve years at Magaluf on Mallorca where he plays with his Miami Band. He was just as surprised to see us and we were able to take him out to some of our favorite bars. He was playing at HOOTERS in Playa del Ingles.

Now we are home and the team has arrived to fit our new heating boiler. It is pretty cold out and we have a stack of logs to light a fire with later! Hopefully the new boiler will be working tomorrow and we shall be getting just as warm with less gas usage.

February 2010

We thought the cold weather was finished but this week is it back again!

Next week we are going to Gran Canaria again to find some warmer weather and hopefully some sun.

We have had an estimate for a new heating boiler and plan to have it fitted next month. I fitted our old boiler in 1968 so it is 42 years old now! It is probably only 20-30% efficient and the new condensing boilers are said to be 90% efficient so we are hoping to save some money on gas. In England you can get grants towards this but here in Wales it looks like any grants will be too late for us to get.

Our BBQ patio in the snow

We had a very quiet Christmas with just the two of us. Our daughter and son-in-law came after Boxing day for a few days. We wen out to Wirral but it was very cold with a chill wind at the West Kirkby Marine lake and the beach at New Brighton. We finished at a pub in Willaston for a late lunch.
I spent a lot of time editing our Christmas video which started with an evening snowfall then our BBQ on Christmas Eve before Christmas Day and a super dinner cooked by Barb. I had lots of problems with the software to get a movie rendered in Bluray format and get it on disc. I finally succeeded in mid January but I now have all the settings noted for the next film!
We have had a few days of snow and ten days of snow on the groud but not very deep and it did not stop travel to the shops.
We bought a breadmaker from Argos and after a bit of experimentation got it working well. We made a good loaf and lots of rolls.
We usually decorate a room in January and this time we are working on our bedroom. I have repainted the ceiling and woodwork and we are now looking for a new carpet.

December 2009

This week we went to Birmingham and our daughter took us to the German Christmas Market. We walked through the Bull Ring shopping centre and into the market area. It was just like the markets we used to visit in Germany and we enjoyed a Bratwurst and mug of Gluwien for lunch. Much of the stuff on sale was really expensive and we did not buy anything at all other than lunch.

When we returned home our downstairs electric toilet was not working and I had to take the toilet out and disconnect everything. I took the maserator outside and levered the top off it. It was jam full of paper inside and I washed it all out with the hosepipe, very messy! After I put it all back together with the toilet everything worked normally again. So I managed to save the cost of a new maserator!

At the weekend I got our Christmas Tree out of the loft and put it together in the lounge. We have had this for a few years now and it has more than paid for itself. We always used to buy a real tree but when you buy a six foot high tree we would find that the top two feet would be just one stalk. The artificial tree looks like what you expect a tree to look like with branches all the way up to the top! The tree is now bedecked with lots of coloured lights and baubles. I am surprised they don't sell boxes of plastic pine needle to sprinkle on the floor around it!

Sunday we put up the rest of the decorations and lights in the lounge and they really brighten up the dark winter evenings.
